George Thomas and Co. report an uninteresting market in produce for the week, and prices for all lines are without any change. Recent heavy withdrawals to the Melbourne and Sydney markets of oats has caused a firmnesß in this line, and a prospect of advance in present ruling rates. Several cheese factories having closed for the winter, we look for an increase in the value of this article, which is now at its lowost extremity, scarcely covering expenses of making Butter still continues firm in’tbcj Australian centres, aud valued there at Is per lb for priinest parcels. We quote: Flour, L 3 10s to L 9 6s ; fowls’ wheat, 2s 9d to 2s lOd ; bran, L 3 10s ; pollard, L 4; short oats, 2s Id ; long, Is 10d to 2s ; oatmeal, L 9 5s to L 9 10s; chaff, L2 15s to L 4 ; feed barley, 2s 9d to 2s 10; beans, 3s Gd ; peas, 3s 6d ; ryo grass seed, 3s 6d; cocksfoot, 3|d; Italian rye, 3s Gd ; maize, 3a 6d to 3s lOd; pearl barley, 2‘2a 6 ; split peas, 17s 6d; cheese, 4d to 4|d ; hams and bacon, 7jd ; fresh butter, lOd; salt ditto, 7; lard, 3Jd : honey, to sd; turkeys, 7s Gd; fowls, 2s 9d; ducks, 3a Gd ; and geese, os Gd per pair. The tariff proposal on fruit 4 per lb. will cause some trouble and confusion, and it would much simplify matters if the impost was colleoted at bo much per package, say la per usual sized case; there is no doubt that tho protection of apples, pears, etc., will cause a diminution of consignments.
