The Legislative Council having inserted a clause in the bill now bsforo the House providing for admission into the Colony of those bona fide through passengers from China to New Zealand who embark at China before the 10th June, the Union Steamship Company have taken the responsibility of bringing down from Sydney those Chinamen destined for Now Zealand who are now at that port. The number of passengers to be carried out at one time will be lim'ted to one per cent on the ship’s tonnage, and the poll tax will be collected in every instance. Dunedin, Juno 2. At the annual meoting of Licensing Committee, all applications for renewals were granted except in one case, the Universal Hotel, which it was reported was badly conducted. The committee had made enquiry of their own motion and were satisfied the complaints were justified. The caso was adjourned for four weeks, but it was intimated that the license would not be granted to Mrs Diamond, the present holder. Those convicted of Sunday trading were severely warned, and the action of the police approved.
