The victim of the outrage in the police cell is recovering, but he is ruined for life. The Rabbit Commission reached Silverton, where experiments have been made with disease discovered by Drs Butcher and Ellis. The Commission are greatly impressed with the effectiveness of the disease as a rabbit-destroying agent. The steamer Chang Sha, from China, has a number of Chinese passengers for New Zealand, there being three booked for Lyttelton, 43 for Greymouth, 5 for Dunedin and 9 for Wellington. Brisbane, May 28. Tho general elections are finished and the Nationalists have a majority of 13. Melbourne, May 28. The Government have received intimation from the Indian Government that 950 horses are required for India, at an average price of £53 ; that sum to include cost of delivery in India. Arrangements are now nearly completed to hold a Chinese Conference about the middle of June. The general feeling of the several Governments being in favor of the Conference meeting in Sydney. The actual date of the meeting is not yet definitely fixed, as it is not known when the New Zealand delegate will arrive.
