Hokitika, May 25. A fatal accident happened yesterday afternoon to John Foster, a carter plying between here and Ross. It appears that deceased was decendingthe hill leading to Deep Creek Bridge, near Rimu, when he fell, when the wheel of the heavilyloaded dray passed over his chest, crushing him fearfully. He was shortly afterwards picked up and conveyed to Rimu. Medical assistance was sent for, but Foster breathed his last ten minutes before the doctor arrived. Deceasod leavesja wife and ten children. Christchurch, May 25. Yesterday afternoon Ethel and Augusta Williamson, aged seven and five years, daughters of a farmer living near Papanui, were drowned in the river Styx. Their father took them with him when he wont to cut a load of manuka near the river. On arriving there he sent them home. Shortly afterwards his son found their shoes and stockings on the bank, and further search revealed their bodies lying in 6ft of water. Wellington, May 25. A settler at Pahiatua, named George Howell, was drowned in the Mangatmoko River, yesterday while crossing in a boat. He was paddling with one oar and overbalanced himself, and was washed down the stream.
