The weather in the morning was fine, but rain set in as play commenced, and three heavy showers fell dui ing tho match. The turf was comparatively dry and springy—just a footballer’s ground. Thomas replaced Laiug in the English team, and for the Aucklanders Brown played instead of Whiteside, who was injured in Saturday’s match ; otherwise the teams were the same as on Saturday last, The play of the Auckland men was more combined than on the former occasion, and from the first their forwards showed the utmost determination, -shoving their opponents before them in the scrums There were frequent rushes, while the backs made no mistake in stopping and collaring. The Englishmen’s passing was not so good as on Saturday, and their backs were frequently mulled by the fast following up. About ten minutes after the game commenced Elliott got the ball fiom a neat pass, and running round the English forwards, touched down amidst great applause. The kick at goal, however, was unsuccessful. Holson potted a goal for Auckland in the second spell, thus making four points for the local men, whilst the visitors did not score.
