LONDON MARKETS. Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Per Press Association.) London, Feb 23. The ■wool sales closed to-day. Prices are unchanged. Twenty-five thousand bales have been held over for next sales. The December rates have been generally maintained except for short and faulty descriptions, which have declined one penny to three half-pence. Received Feb 24, 11 p.m. The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, shows the reserve in notes and bullion to be £15,000,000, being an increase of £416,000 on last week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 47 per cent. The quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is one million six hundred and ninety thousand quarters, and for the Continent one hundred and sixty thousand quarters. The market rate of discount is _1 § per cent. Received Feb. 25, 1.15 a.in. Feb 24. A thousand quarters of Australian wheat has been sold at 30s.
