Abandoned.— The directors of the claim known as M’Guiro’s at Havelock, have recommended that operations be discontinued, and the men have accordingly been knocked off. Ren wick Presbyterian Church.— The Bible-class and choir in connection with the Renwiek Presbyterian Church which was disbanded for about six weeks during the holiday seasons was resumed on Wednesday night last with a promising at. tendance. Sixteen were present, and doubtless a good many more would have been but were deterred by working late in the harvest held. Miss Barry was organist at the choir practice. The Band of Hope meetings will begin again after the public school examination. Wesleyan Church Cnoiß. What proved a most enjoyable entertainment was given in tho Wesleyan Church schoolroom last evening, The building was well filled; and the Rev, Mr Crump occupied tho chair, The following programme was submitted : Overture, piano and violiu ; Tennyson’s “ May Queen,” Mr Howard: duet, “Bitter Sweet,” Misses Powell and Crum ; reading, “Boots at the Holly Tree Inn” (Dickens), Mr Howard; trio, “The Knight and the lady ” (one of the Ingoldsby Legends), Misses Rose ; duet, “ The Brook ” (Tennyson), Misses Doudswell and C. Crump; song, Miss Eva Crump ; song, Miss Powell (encored) ; reading, “Major Namby,” Mr Howard. “Tho Brook,” by Mr C. C. Howard, was certainly the gem of the evening, being enthusiastly received by the audience. Miss Eva Crump accompanied Mr Howard very nicely. During the evening refreshments were supplied and seemed to be relished by one and all. Gouge Claim. — A meeting of those interested in this claim was held at the Club Hotel at eight o’clock last evening. There were about fifteen persons present. Mr J. R. Skelly was appointed Chairman, and that gentleman produced a plan, showing the proposed claim, and explained at some" length the manner in which the claim VRB to bo worked. Mr Skelly also briefly narrated the works undertaken by previous companies, many of which could bo utilised to great advantage by tho proposed Company. Considerable interest was taken by those present, and tho proposed method of working the claim wins discussed at great length. A provisional directorate, consisting of Messrs Litchfield, Simile,' Skejly, Allen, Malcolm and Flaherty, was appointed, a»d it was decided that directors visit the claim today, and report on Monday evening next as to the most practicable plan of working the claim.
