The Austrian exhibitors have applied for 10,000 feet of space at tho Melbourne Exhibition, and it is hoped that Switzerland and Java will be represented. Rear-Admiral Tryon, formerly in charge of the Australian station, succeeds Lord Charles Beresford as Juuior Naval Lord of the Admiralty. Sydney, Jan 20. A shipment of butter sent Home from here has fetched one shilling per lb and is described as the best ever seen, excelling Danish, and that there is nothing in the market to compare with it. The agents to whom the shipment was consigned are confident of being able to readily establish a permanent market for it. The Social purity society have asked the police to stop the BurlceFoley glove fight, but they have declined to accede to tho request.
