The Right Rev J. Moore, Bishop of Ballarat, has had a private audience with the Pope, at which he presented the address from the Catholics resident in Victoria. Accompanying the address were 1000 Ballarat sovereigns, quartz specimens, and silver groups, representing Australian flora, fauna, and aboriginal life. His Holiness, in reply, said he was pleased at the progress of religion in Ballarat. Ho commended their generosity in support of religion, education, and their offerings to the Pontificate. A general strike lias been ordered of tho employes on the Philadelphia Reading Railway, in consequence of tho owners employing non-Unionists. The strike will affect 65,000 men.
