Por Press Association. Dunedin, Deo. 22. A firo occurred at Caversham last night by which a four-roomed, house owned and occupied by Joseph Elb’s, was destroyed. John Duthie has been fined 20s in the Polieo Court for keeping a girl employed in his factoiy after working hours on Saturday. John Cooney, the prisoner who was sentenced on Saturday for disorderly conduct in gaol, appeared in Court again t i-day, tho evidence showing that he bohaved worse after sentence than beforo. The noise he mndo, coupled with singing and aoaring, drew quite a crowd outside the gaol. Ho was sentenced to ten days on bread and water ; and on tho gaoler’s pleasure tho sentence can bo held in übeyanco if prisoner behaves.
