Tlie Marquis of Salisbury speaking at Derby, (lid not consider the diplomatic nows pointed to an immediate European war although he believed that hostilities would commence without any warning, and for this reason it was necessary that England should make all needful preparations. llis Lordship vigorously condemned tho protection movement which he declared could only result in civil war. Deferring to tiro coming session of Parliament Lord Salisbury said that business transacted would be essentially British, and it was not tho intention of Her Majesty’s Government to devote any considerable time to Irish questions.
