EARLY CLOSING.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Can nothing be done in the way of regulating the hours of closing the diaper’s shops in Blenheim. Bust one min keeps open, then another inserts an advertisement (bordering on a threat) saying he will keep open as long as he likes, or longer if necessary. This, of course, gets the backs up of the others who were inclined to fa” in with the customary early closing hours, and now everything is at s’Vfl and seven’s. No more business is done by keeping open late, but just because Mr Spriggings round the coiner, who plays a lone hand and goes alone, chooses to keep open, Messrs Brown, Jones and Robinson follow suite, wasting gas and taking no money, and so your humble Bcrvant is kept lounging about with nothing to do. In any other town, if one antagonistic member kept open longer than the ordinary hours, he would be treated with silent centempt by the remainder of the trade and the public as a rule going with the majority, and the gentleman “going alone” does not take enough to pay h ; s extra gas bill. If tho remainder of the drapers here followed this example, I am sure the public would sup* poi c them, and not tho others.' —I am &c., SCI3BORS. Blenheim, Dec. 1.
