Tlio respondent's case in the election petition, Bryoo v Hutchison, was closed curly in the afternoon, and the counsel for tlio respondent is now addressing the Court. TTp f,o the present, he has spoken for over four hours. A number of witnesses wore called this morning, hut the ovidonco was confined to the denis l , of hav : ng been treated on certain occasions by the respondent or his agents. Hugh Maddock, manager for the respondent, gave evidence as to his connection with a transaction in which a man named Bright is alleged to have been promised a section of land, from which it appeared that Bright merely expressed desire to possess the land, but no arrangement was come to. Bright was iPsmissed from respondent’s employ by the manager for drunkenness. Maddock also dotailed the circumstances iu connection with having given a cow to Mason on consideration that he gave his support to respondent at the election. The manager stated it was bis custom to lend cows to neighbors after calving. Tho manager of another property also stated this common practice. Tho Court resumed at half-past seven. Counsel for tho petitioners will address the Court to-night.
