Tlio Government intend asking Parliament shortly to change the ! name of the colony, but the proposed now name has not transpired. It is contemplated at an early date to change the present tramway system in use in this city by the introduction of the cable system. The lion W. 13. Dailey is improving in health. Brisbane, Friday. After a lengthy and stormy meeting of the Assembly, the Opposition allowed the Naval Defence Bill to pass the first reading, but this was only agreed to upon the understanding that tho matter should afterwards be allowed to lapse. It is rumored in official circles that the Premier contemplates resigning, the colony having pledged its honor to have the Bill passed. Mur, bourne, Friday. Another body from the Clioviot has been washed ashore at Sorrento. Perth, Friday The escaped prisoners from the Freemantlo Gaol are still at largo, a’though they have been seen by the police, who are in hot pursuit.
