CRICKET.
A cricket match was played on Saturday between a team representing the legal gentlemen and an eleven iromthu Waivuu C.C. It was expected that the latter would have had an easy victory, but again was the glorious uncertainty of the game exemplified as the “devil’s own” won easily—in fait too easily to make the match interesting. It must, however, be borne in mind the W.C.C. had anything but their best team. The bow.'mg oJ: the Club wan shocking. The tl’veo bowlers, Tovey, Branson and M’Kenzie, who were expected to have rattled down tho wickets of the gown and vv>g iratuvniiy i ho n'.icpins, did nothing ot the sort; it was not their day out, and so tho lawyers hud a day in. Mr Rogers captained the Dovff’s Brigade and Mr Branson the W.C.C. The hitter won the toss and elected to bat. The least said about the hir’nga the better ; suffice it that the bowlmg of M‘lreland A. Lucas was too good for them, as they were all disposed of for 33. In the second .’••*)mgs they d'd very b.ttle better, and wore put out for 49, the only one getting iuto double figures being Taylor, who managed to knock up 11. lor the Lawyers Mr M‘Nab played well for fits 13, A- Lucas obtained 12, and Mowatt, who wont in for wholesale slogging, knocked up 15, Fisher scraped 10 together and the remainder did very little. The innings closed for G 5. The total scores of the VV.C.C. amounted to 82, which left thoir opponents 18 to get to Win, which they obtained without the loss of a wicket. Annexed are the scores.
