THE SYDNEY METROPOLITAN,

AMERICAN CUP YACHT RACE

Sydney, Sept 20. Phaon is being 1 largely supported for the Metropolitan, and Cardigan, Morok and The Jewel are next in demand. The weather this morning is dull.

The following is the result of the Sydney Metropolitan :

At the second day’s racing of the Australian Jocky Club’s spring meeting today the following were the results of the different events :—The Shorts Handicap, 150 sovs, three-quarters of a nfile -The Felon 1, Ilossivillo 2, Moorbank 3 ; won easily ; time 1 min 15 j secs. Richmond Stakes, four furiongs and a half—Consequence 1, Lady-in-waiting 2, Miss Thirza 3 ; time 57 sees. Spring Maiden Stakes, 1 mile and a half—Gran brook 1, Australian Peer ‘2, Dainty 3 ; time 2 min 45} secs. Great Metropolitan Stakes, two miles—Cardigan 1, Acalye 2, Upper Cut 3 ; time 3 min 38} sees ; the other starters were Spade Guinea, First Chester, The Jewel, Dunlop, Kaitaua, Pasha, Frisco, Phaon, Dividend, Morok, The Felon ; the betting on the course was 4 to 1 against Phaon, 6 to 1 Cardigan, 7 Kuituna, Spade Guinea & Morok, 8 Upper Cut, 10 Analyte At the start the pace was slow, and in passing the stand the first time Dunlop, Frisco, Ritawa, Pasha, wepe in a line together. Kitawa then lead some distance with Dunlop next, the latter afterwards taking the lead and holding well to the front up the line. The pace quickened at the turn for home where Aerlyte was i leading, closely followed by Cardigan and a terrific race ensued resulting in a win for Cardigan on the post for a short head. Upper Cut two lengths away and the others bunched together. 'New Vork, Sept 18. Eight to five is being laid by the Americans on the yacht Volunteer against the Thistle for the American Cup.
