HAVEBLOCK NEWS.

On Thursday afternoon we bad another scare about not receiving our letters when the mail arrived, as Mr B< >ers had to I*l MSP the Post and Telegraph Office about 1 p.m. to go out on the line and find where a contact had taken place. Fortunately he was able to get back in time for the mail delivery, but two persons wanted to telegraph to "Wellington when ho was away, and this absurd cheeseparing economy prevented them doing so in time to catch the vessel leaving that port. Besides this, attention to the lino is only child’s play, and it is absurd to have to close an important central office in a largo district like the Pelorus, when any person could bo employed for that purpose as occasion required, instead of the Post and Telegraph master having to eloso tho premises to go and seek tho damn go himself. As pointed out before, it would be better to sell tho old three-legged horse which is only onein name; and tho saving effected in oats alone would pay for any repairs on tho line. If the ruling powers had to pull a distance of over 20 miles, as some of tho settlers in tho Pelorus Sound are forced to do in order to obtain their letters or send a telegram, and then find the office shut, which prevented them returning while the tide was ebbing, there would bo some strong language used. The Government advertise tho office as open from!) a.m. to 5 p.m., for six days in the week, and 1 want to know by what rule they close it at pleasure. However, if these gentle reminders have not tho desired effect, wo intend suing the Government for breach of contract in not keeping the office open according to advertisement, and employing tho Attorney-General to put ’ cm through.
