Two young men, Frederick Ellis and Laery Small, were charged at the Police Court to-day with assault and robbery on an elderly man night. It is stated that the men seized him and took LIS from bis pockets. Prisoners, who had b o m arrested on suspicion, were remanded till Friday noxt. A great fire has boon raging since Thursday evening in rhe Awaroa swamp near Rakaia. Everything being so dry serious results are apprehended. There are some 4000 neres over which the fire has already gone, and is still going on. A good deal of fencing is burnt, but no homes as yet. The three-masted schooner Yolande came into harbor last evening from Newcastle.
