The information was thrown out, the case being held not proved. Five informations for perjury have been laid, two on behalf of defendant aud three on behalf of plaiuhflf. A verdict of accid ntally drowned was returned at the inquest on Wm Thomson. Auckland, Jan. 8. Two young men, Frederick Ellis and Laery Small, were charged at the Police Court to-day with assault and robbery on an elderly man night. It is stated that the men seized him and took LIS from bis pockets. Prisoners, who had b o m arrested on suspicion, were remanded till Friday noxt. A great fire has boon raging since Thursday evening in rhe Awaroa swamp near Rakaia. Everything being so dry serious results are apprehended. There are some 4000 neres over which the fire has already gone, and is still going on. A good deal of fencing is burnt, but no homes as yet. The three-masted schooner Yolande came into harbor last evening from Newcastle. The voyage proved a most ds» astrous one, having be-n unfortunate, as she lost three renmen during a heavy gale on the 17th December. The men were stowing the jib at the time, ami it boing night the accident was not noticed, but it is ba'ieved the men were washed overboard by a heavy sea, and the vessel passed over them. The men’s names were Matthew Sweeney, John Hannnford, and Ch tries Engele. On the coast the Yolmdcwas in company with the ship Rakaia, 115 days out from I.ondon.
