HAVELOCK.

(l-rom our own correspondent.)

The most important public meeting ever held in this d’strict will be held at the Town Hall, Havelo k, on Saturday evening the 12th inst,, and from the interest shown in the subject to be brought under discussion, it will no doubt be the largest meeting that ever assembled here, The Pelorus Hoad Board have done what they considered best for the district by moving to have the railway connection between Blenheim and Nelson via Henwicldown, Havelock, and Rai Valley, than via Tophouse j and I am pleased to notice that the Nelson City Council have strongly endorsed the opinion and sent a copy of the resolution to their mnVei, Mr II- A. Levestam, while the Waimea County Council ha*'e resolved to giye the matter their earnest consult rttion at tbeir next meeting. Now it remains for Marlborough to do its share and show the Government by strong expression of public opinion that we all consider it more advantageous to our general interests to have this line constructed through the Pelorus district. Our member, E, T. Conolly, Esq , and many other influential men have declared the Tophouse convection would be a mistake and I have no doubt ihe meeting next Saturday night will show the feeling is far fiom superficial. I hear that other public meetings wi'l be held in different centres of the district to endorse the same views.
