PARLIAMENT.
HOUSE of REPRESENTATIVES. (United Press Association.) Wellington, July 16. The House met at 7.30. The Speaker beiug unavoidably absent, Mr Hamlin, Chairman of Committees, took the chair. • • Mr FELD WICK moved the second reading of the Chattels Securities Rijl, which was agreed to without remark,’ and on his motion the Bill was referred to a Select Committee. Mr SEDDON moved the second reading of the Gold Duty Abolition Bill. Mr ROLLESTON strongly opposed tho Bill. Messrs FERGUS, Dk LAUTOUR, and SHAW supported the Bill. Mr FISH opposed the Bill. Mr MUNRO supported the second reading, but thought the reduction of the duty should be gradual. Messrs PETRIE aud FITZGERALD supported the Bill. Mr SHEEHAN would only support it if permissive. Messrs DUNCAN and J. C. BROWN supported the Bill. Mr SEDDON having replied, the House divided on the second reading, which was carried by 31 to 17, and the Bill was referred to the Goldfields Committee. Division List. ? , ; f Ayes, 21.
