The papers tell of a courtship and marriage brought about by a note written on an eggshell. It is the most eggs-traord inary affair. The two hearts are now yoked together. The fire which recently occurred in the Zoological Garden, Melbourne, is supposed to have originated through the over-heating of the furnace, which is kept constantly burning in the winter in order to supply the necessary warmth to the reptiles. The building was constructed cf light wood, and burned rapidly nothing remaining but the chimney-stack. None of the property was insured. Amongst the reptiles which were destroyed were two boa-constrictors, recently procured from India, and a Java python. It will probably be impossible to replace these three reptiles. Four cases of smaller reptiles were also destroyed, comprising various kinds of snake and lizards. Amongst the lizards was one from India, worth LbO.
