MATAMATA BRANCH Annual General Meeting The annual general meeting of the Matamata branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was attended hy a number of teachers on Friday evening in the Matamata High School. Mr. H. Fawcett, M.A., presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet the president commented on the wide scope of the activities controlled by the executive and eulogised the work of the treasurer in being able to present such a creditable balancesheet The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. H. Fawcett, ’ M.A.; vice-presidents, Miss E. V. Bell, M. and Mr. R. G. Hutton (Putaruru); secretary, Mr. R. Arbuckle; treasurer. Mr. K. Grover; auditor. Miss I. Parkinson; librarian, Mr. T. E. Wayte; interim committee, Miss Greville, Messrs. T. R. Birdsall and N. Gilling; management committee, to consist of interim committee and Messrs. E. Smith and J. Melville. The interim committee will meet each month to discuss routine business. It was resolved that the next meeting be held at Putaruru on April 28 to discuss remits for the annual conference in May, to be held at Wellington, and also to attend a lecture by Miss Holst, an exchange teacher from England. It was decided to co-operate with the Matamata branch of the Labour Party in establishing W.E.A. classes in Matamata as soon as possible. To cater for the social needs of teachers in the district and also to make closer contact with the business world, the executive was instructed to devise ways and means of holding an annual ball and an annual dinner at an early date. The result of the postal ballot for the branch's delegate to the Wellington conference will be made known on Saturday, April 15. At the conclusion of the evening supper was served by lady members of the executive under Miss Bell.
