McLean and Horne Win
W. McLean, become the first chain--pion of the; Matamata Gun Club by winning thi» competition over the' week-end. McLean has shot veuy consistently throughbut the season, and has now. established himself as one of the best and* most consistent shots in the Waikato; Ins the local! club shoot he .was in great form and proved himself a worthy champion by not only winning the- majjpr competition, but by being first- in- five other events. W. Horne won- the junior championship in good style-and! ailso'another event. During an interval) Mr. L Kosooff (secretary), who presented' theprizes, referred in feeling terms to the loss the club had sustained ihthe death of Mr. C. Rkwiri, one of its members. As a mark of respect those present stood for a moment' in- silence-. Results of the various competi tions were: Championships Senior Event (Hastie Cup), 21 birds.—W. McLean* Jl Dobson and E. Wright each shot 20 birds. McLean won the shoot-off' with Dobson runner-up. Senior Event (Dobson’s Trophy), nine birds.—W: Horne and A. Blyth each shot eight bird’s-. Horn won the shoot-off. Other Events Six-bird. Eye-opener.—W. Horne (13yds) and. G. Brown (15yds- shot the possible. R., Brinkworth (18yds-, A. J. Blyth (13,yds- and E. Green (24yds),. shot five birds. Trophy Match (nine birds-.—W. McLean (21yds), J. Dobson (21yds) and E. Wright (22yds) shot the possible. McLean won the shoot-off. Yankee Shoot (16 birds).—L. Maher and E. Green shot the possible. Maher won the shoot-off. Gimcraek (seven birds). —-F. McLean (17-29yds), H. E. Davis (1424yds), H. Stone (10-22yds), E. Wright (17-29yds) and E. Green (11-27yds) all shot six birds. Double Rise (five pairs).—W. McLean, G. Brown and W. Blair shot four pairs.
Gimcraek (seven birds). —:W. McLean (18-30yds), shoti six birds; R. Brinkworth (16-20yds), -shot five birds. c.
. Box Shoot (24yds, six birds).—W. McLean, R. Brinkworth and J. Dobson shot five birds. McLean won the shoot-off.
