W. McLean, become the first chain--pion of the; Matamata Gun Club by winning thi» competition over the' week-end. McLean has shot veuy consistently throughbut the season, and has now. established himself as one of the best and* most consistent shots in the Waikato; Ins the local! club shoot he .was in great form and proved himself a worthy champion by not only winning the- majjpr competition, but by being first- in- five other events. W. Horne won- the junior championship in good style-and! ailso'another event. During an interval) Mr. L Kosooff (secretary), who presented' theprizes, referred in feeling terms to the loss the club had sustained ihthe death of Mr. C. Rkwiri, one of its members. Wright each shot 20 birds. McLean won the shoot-off' with Dobson runner-up. Senior Event (Dobson’s Trophy), nine birds.—W: Horne and A. Blyth each shot eight bird’s-. Horn won the shoot-off.
