RIFLE-SHOOTING

NOTES AND COMMENTS

(By “Bullseye.”)

• Last Saturday there were some good scores at 800 yards by D. Reynolds (49) and Les. Forde (48). Reynolds kept his sighting shots, which were 5 and 4. and then put on eight bulls in succession. He broke on the ninth with a 4. • > - The 'new long range flags were tried and were a great success. The colour is . orange, and their dimensions are 15 feet in length, with a base of five feet, running out. to one foot in width at the point of the pennant. Many colours and shapes have been tried in tire past, but orange ifj definitely the most discernable colour at 800 and 900 yards. > On Saturday next the shoot for Mr. J. J. Coulter’s trophy will he finalised at 900 yards. Twenty shots will be fired in two stages of ten. "

Easter* Meeting Good entries are forthcoming for the South Auckland Easter shoot, and if the association is favoured with dry weather the meeting should' be the most successful that has been held under the auspices of the Matamata executive. A. W. Harris, the holder of the South Auckland title and also the Fraser Smith Belt, will be on deck to defend his title. It will be remembered that Harris averaged 48 out of 50 last year, winning by five points from F. Bowes, a New Zealand Belt winner, and who was runner-up to Masefield this year. Matamata are the holders of the Victoria Banner for the highest team scores. The team was: H, W. Rollett, H. R. King, N. C. Rollett a'nd D. Reynolds. As N. C. Rollett is now a resident of Te Kuiti-, his place must be filled by either of the following: K. Grigsby. Les. Forde or W. M. Griffiths. That is, providing the others are selected. At present Forde holds the strongest prospects as his form at Trentham was above the average, and fast Saturday he topped the day I with 91. I
