MATAMATA MEETING
Report on Year’s Work
There were about 30 present at the annual meeting of the Matamata Caledonian Society, which was held on Tuesday. Chief W. G. John occupied the chair. An apology was received from Mr. R. V. Anderson. Annual Report Mr J. Foggo, treasurer, stated that the tenth annual balance-sheet showed that another successful year had been enjoyed. Subscriptions and donations had produced £2O Is 6d. and there was a profit of £26 7s Id from socials and dances. Interest brought in £2 2s lid. while there was £9l 4s, plus profits, in the Building Society. The capital account stood at £262 11s lid, and" the credit balance in the hank was £4O 17s lid. During the year the section purchased by the society in Tainui street had been paid off and now stood clear of debt in the society’s name.
The income for the year totalled £4B 13s 6d, and the excess over expenditure was £2B 5s 4d. Assets totalled £262 11s lid, the freehold section being set down at £125. The report was adopted without comment. ' Election of Officers The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr. H. Sutherland, senr.; chief. Mr. W. G. John; chieftains, Messrs. W. Emslie, W. McDonald and W. Peddie; secretary, Mr. W. S. Wilson; treasurer, Mr. W. Emslie? Auditor; Mr. G. G. Griffiths; ladies' committee, Mesdames Henderson, Wilson, Stanley, McDonald, Dobson and Miss Downie; men’s Committee. Messrs J, A. Dobson, R. V. Anderson, H. G. Henderson and G. R. Desmond; hon. chaplain, Rev. J. H. Combes. ' New Members
j The following new members were elected: Miss N. Barnes, Mi\ and Mrs. Coclcell, Messrs. E. and N. Kruse, Mr. W. Barlow (Wardville), Messrs. N. C. Reid and W. H. Vette. Miss R. G. Vette, Miss P. O’Brien, Mrs. C. N. Buchanan, Mrs. J. R. Gore Mr. and MiSi Angus Cobb, Mr. and Mrs. W. Webster aftd Mrs. E. R. Sexton. Subscriptions
It was decided that the membership fees be the same as last year, yiz, 2s 6d for seniors and Is for juniors under 16. Social Officials
The following officials were appointed to take charge of arrangements for socials in turn; Messrs. W. S. Wilson and W. McDonald; Messrs W. Peddie and J. A. Dobson; Messrs H. G. Henderson and G. R. Desmond; Messrs R. V. Anderson and Emslie.
Proceedings closed, with a sit-down supper, following which a short dance was held. The musicians for the dance were: Mrs. W. Quigg and Messrs. J. A. Dobson and W. .Peddie. r Chief W. G. John was M.C.
