FARM INSTRUCTORS

EXTENT OP POWERS Position at Hinuera A strong plea that something should be done to ensure that milking sheds were kept absolutely clean was made by Mr. W. McNab at the annual meeting of the Hinuera Dairy Company. Mr. McNab said that he had visited sheds where the conditions were very bad, and he thought that the Government instructor should have absolute power to stop the supply from such sheds. The matter arose following a comment by the chairman, Mr. J. E, West, to the effect that the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd.; had advised that next season it would require the whole-time services of the instructor at present shared with Hinuera on account of the large increase in their territory. This, Mr. West pointed out, would' leave the Hinuera suppliers in the air. Mr. P. R. Hawke said the instructor had : the power 'to stop supply from dirty sheds. The instructor was subsidised by the Government to the extent of one-third, and he felt it was a position which should be put to the Government, as if an instructor was so subsidised he should be available for any farm. Mr. West stated that until the block system was brought into being he did not think the Government would carry out the suggestion. The present area was too big for one man. Mr. McNab stressed the fact that supply could be stopped from a dirty shed under certain conditions, but not if the cream from such sheds was obtaining finest or superfine cream at the factory. That was the point. Mr. West remarked that the instructor was appointed as a result‘of the efforts of Mr. Dempster, and he thought representations might , ;be made to secure a reduction in the N.Z.C.D.C.’s area so that Hinuera suppliers could be included. This suggestion was approved. . •t.i.'-T
