Kiwitahi Railway
IMPROVEMENTS AT STATION At last the Kiwitahi railway station is lit by electricity, and the era of kerosene lamps is no more. There was no official “ switching-on ” ceremony, but the power was used for the first time during the week-end in the station buildings and the tablet porter's dwelling. Another improvement effected recently is the enlargement of the station stock yards so as to permit of the holding of a very large number of stock and the more-rapid loading of stock. This will be much appreciated next summer, when tens of thousands of fat lambs will be railed away from Kiwitahi, which serves a big sheep-farming district.
At long last cattle stops have been constructed at the railway crossing, so that the days of settlers chasing stock about the station yard are gone for ever.
These improvements have been carried out as a result of requests made by a deputation which waited on the Minister of Railways when he went through on the railcar last year.
