SHORTAGE OF HOUSES

• ORDER FOR POSSESSION The acute shortage of houses in Matamata was once again illustrated When Alex Young, of Matamata, sought to get possession of his house on Peria road which he had rented to Jessie R. 'Cohen, of Matamata, for one year. Defendant explained that she thoroughly appreciated plaintiff’s position, but for the past six months she had been endeavouring to obtain another house without success. It was not her desire to inconvenience (plaintiff, ’.but dhe .simply' could not get another house to go to. She had two young children. She had a provisional offer of a house on December 19, but that would only last till April 20. ' ’ ‘ . In summing up, the Magistrate remarked that it was a very difficult case to decide. On the one hand defendant had two young children/ while plaintiff had only himself and his wife, in consequence it would be a hardship on defendant to be put out.. In regard to the financial posifcipps, however, the positions were reversed and the hardship would be on defendant. An order would be made for possession but. the warrant would not be issued until December 20. Each party would pay their own costs.
