TRAFFIC PROSECUTIONS
BY MATAMATA COUNTY / / council Less than the usual number of traffic offences were dealt with in the Putaruru Magistrate’s Court on Friday before Mr. S. L, Paterson, S.M. The six offences heard concerned four men, arid pf these three were prosecuted by the traffic inspector to the Matamata County Council, the fourth being a police case.
No Transport Authority ' :
Sylvester R. Blackwell was charged by the traffic inspector, # E. W. Jordan, with operating a loaded heavy motor vehicle without any transport authority. He was stopped with a load of posts at Karapiro. The defendant submitted a statement to the Bench, from which the Magistrate inferred he had faced a similar charge before. He was fined £2 and costs.
Unlicensed Car
Charges of operating a motor-car bearing last year’s number plate and of failing to renew his driver’s license were brought against George Petherick. The inspector said he stopped defendant beyond Tokoroa,' the latter stating he was coming in to rectify the omission. He was fined 10s on the first charge and £2 on the second, with costs in each case.
Excessive Speed
driving a post-laden motor truck bearing a class H license at 34 miles per hour,; Percy Newton was charged with exceeding the limit of 30 miles per hour, to which six ton vehicles were restricted. The inspector stated he tailed defendant for half a mile. The limit had recently been increased, but was being strictly enforced.
Defendant was fined £2 and costs.
Sequel to Accident
As the result of an accident on the Arapuni road in July in which he collided with a motor lorry, Arthur Thomas was charged by the police with driving a motor-cycle without lights and without a driver’s license. Because of the accident he had spent some time in hospital. Defendant did not appear and < was fined 10s on each charge, with-costs in each case.
