MATAMATA CLUB Week-end Results The Matamata Rifle Club held a shoot on Saturday over 200 and 300 yards ranges. Results were: —

MATCH AGAINST TAURANGA i I On Monday a team from the club j travelled to Tauranga and were most hospitably received. A very even match resulted and but for an unexpected failure by one of the visitors to maintain average form the visitors might have won. Details of the scores were:— Tauranga

On Saturday next the final club shoot will he held over ranges 200 and 300 yards.

Mr. R. Catchpole’s trophy for returned soldier members will be shot for in conjunction with the final shoot.

The leading aggregates are as fol-

low: C. J. Fleming 197, H. R. King 193, N. Rollett 193, H. Rollett 188, D. Reynolds 186, W. M. Griffiths 190.

The trophy for returned soldier members will he shot under handicap

conditions with a limit of 65. Following are the handicaps: C. J. Fleming scr, W. M. Griffiths 2, A. Norris 2, F. Pilcher 7, A. Pilcher 7, R. de Luen 7, 0. Stanley 5, J. Johnstone 9, R. McCready 12, A. Thornton 15.

On Monday the club members paid a visit to Tauranga and sustained a defeat by 11 points. R. Barrett, of Matamata, shot brilliantly for 90. Barrett’s score was particularly sound insofar as the conditions were concerned, and it is expected that more will be seen of him next season.

i H. W. Rollett, N. C. Rollett andi W. M. Griffiths all shot up to form. The team were welcomed by Major Mirrielees, and afterwards entertained at luncheon, a fact which was warmly appreciated by the Matamata men. At the conclusion of the shoot, Mr. \V. M. Griffiths thanked the Tauranga Club for their hospitality, and also complimented them on their victory. Major Matheson responded on behalf of the home team. The Matamata Club were invited to send a team to the ©ay of Plenty championship to be held at Whakatane on June 3. High praise was again bestowed on the Matamata officials for their organisation of the recent Easter Fraser Smith Belt meeting. Major Matheson, secretary of the Tauranga Club, an official of long ence, went out of his way to refer to* the pleasure experienced by all the visitors, as did Major Mirrielees, who was also warm in his renewed praise.
