THAMES TOURNAMENT Matamata Successes Several Matamata boxers competed at the second tournament under the Thames Boxing Association, which was held on Saturday. W. Brown (9.13 J), of Okoroire, who is a promising novice, beat W. Williams (10.4), of Matatoki, and Ken Newton (11.4), also of Okoroire, beat J. McConnell (11.6), of Port Charles. R. Miles (10.2), of Okoroire, who has only taken up the game during the past few weeks and has shown very great promise for an amateur, found E. Rolleston (9.7), of Auckland, too skilful for him, and he lost on points after a good display. In a match of four rounds, C. Farmer and H. Hepburn, who are both well-known in Matamata, fought a draw. The referee ordered a fifth round, but at the conclusion of that could not separate the pair on points. In a six-round contest Neville Mudgway, of Waihi, beat F. Parsons, of Auckland.
