POWER HOUSES MEET First Ragwort Bowl Game Arapuni 6, Horahora 0. The .first annual match for the Ragwort Bowl, presented, by Mr. Peter Johnson, of Horahora, for competition between the Waikato power houses, was played at Arapuni during the week-end and resulted in a win for Arapuni from Horahora by six points to three. A large attendance was fully alive to the importance of the stakes—the bowl was a really fine trophy, being made from the bottom of a Miller lamp with a base of wood from the submerged forest —and the friendly rivalry of the two stations resulted in some bright and cheery football, although the advantage lay with Arapuni during most of the game (says the Putaruru Press). The two fifteens, including- some rather electrifying nicknames, as posted in the Arapuni powerhouse, were:—? Arapuni.—“Buster” Birse; “Staticy ” Potter, “ Redlead ” Read, Osborne; “ Rusty ” ) Haven, “ Grappler*’ Grupin; “Canterbury” Evans; “ Legs ” Logan, “ Shorty ” Stickland, “Count” Wilsoski, Brown,. “ Pidgeon ” Potter, Bronco ” Crompton, “ Spike ” McKinnon, “Mike” McDonald. Horahora.—“ Hitler ” Hall; “Slim” Sorenson. “ Battling ” Broolcer, “ Tiki ” Graham; Pommy ” Powell, “Snifter” Snell; “Anvil” Ashby; “ K.V.A. ” Clark; “Another” Smith, “ Mona ” Goodwin, iClarke, “ Stork ” Roberts, “ Willhe ” Sorenson, "Maudlin” Maunder, “ Taff ” Jackson. The first few minutes were brightened by the fact that an Arapuni forward looked charming in feminine attire and also that on the kick-off it was found that'Arapuni had staki> 1. ■ •! ! For this Horahora Were given the kick with the rubber removed.
