VALEDICTORY t' . Mrs. K. E. Maguire On Monday at the Matamata High Scnool Mrs. K. E. Maguire, who leaves lor England on August 3, was itne guest ot honour at two functions. Tne girls of the school assembled to lareweii their lormer technical mistress. Miss E. V. Bell paid tribute to Mrs. Maguire, and one of the scholars, Evelyn Smith, present-; ed her with a suede travelling cushion with a New Zealand scene depicted in poker-work, and also a photograph album bound in suede with pokerwork design on an inner page <Jf which was a water-colour of flowers by Marjorie Neaber. Snapsnots ox Matamata friends and pupils of Mrs. Maguire were included in the album. Mrs. Maguire warmly thanked the girls. A very enjoyable party followed, at which Miss E. V. Bell, Mrs. S. StocKuale, Mrs. K. R. Menuplay and Mrs. n. ax. iviDcuewhite were hostesses jo about 40 friends of Mrs. Magi. _e. The attendance showed that the afternoon’s guest had enac.eu uerseix to many fnends. Gross. Following afternoon tea a competition was held to decide on the best conversationalist present, and Mrs. Maguire was awarded the prize. Miss Hell, in a very able manner, made the speech of farewell to the popular guest. Miss Bell remarked that Mrs. Maguire's name would always symbolise Irish charm. . Friends Foregather Mrs. R. R/ Mentiplay was hostess to about 20 friends of Mrs. Maguire recently. A dainty afternoon tek was served, and following this Mrs. Mentiplay spoke a few well-chosen words in farewell to the gUeSt, : and presented her' with an interesting book in which those present had written their names. Mrs. Maguire, to whom the party had been a happy surprise, thanked her friends. Convfen/t Girls’ Token The girl 'pupils of standards V. and VI. at St. Joseph’s Convent also paid a tribute to Mrs. Maguire, and handed her a beautifully-bound prayer book, in English calf.
