OF MATAMATA SCHOOL.

Sixth Annual Meeting.

The sixth aunual meeting of the Matamata District High School Old Boys’ Association was held in the school on Tuesday. Mr. W. Oates presided. Vote of Condolence. ' Before business was proceeded with all present stood while a vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. Keith Buckley, who was a vice-president of the association, was passed. Annual Report.

The report for the year, after referring in appreciative terms to the late Mr. Buckley’s work for the association, mentioned that the removal of Mr. Tisch, the secretary, from Matamata to Hamilton had been severely felt. Congratulations on his promotion and best wishes for his future were offered. During the year the association had assisted to erect the honours board in the school, organised a charity dance which realised £5 and donated 10s 6d to the R.S.A. Membership of 44.

The membership was stated to be 44, which, though an increase on last year, was not as high as the committee would wish. The vacancy in the secretaryship had been efficiently .filled by Mr. J. Simpson. The social side had also been well catered for, several parties at the Springs having been arranged and thoroughly enjoyed. During the coming year each member was asked to do his best to secure a further member. Balance-sheet. The balance-sheet showed that there was £37 5s 5d in hand, of which sum £3O was set aside for a special gate account. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, Mr. E. C. Banks; president, Mr. G. Fitzgerald; vicepresidents, Messrs. N. Sutherland and W. Oates; secretary, Mr. J. J. Simpson; assistant secretary, Mr. If. Sutherland; committee* Messrs. P. Thirlwall, N. Pond and T. auditor, Mr. L. Little. Sports Activities. The meeting decided that the singles and combined doubles tennis tournament be carried on again this year, and also to ' approach the school for a return cricket match.

Debating Section. On the motion of Messrs. N. Sutherland and N. Pond, the committee was instructed to go into the matter of forming a debating section during the coming year. School Magazine. The president referred to the dropping of the school magazine and deep regret was expressed that such good work had been allowed to stop. It was decided to recommend that the step taken be reconsidered with a view to publication being resumed. New Rules. A full set of rules, which had been drawn up by a special committee, was read and approved. Thanks. In closing the meeting Mr. Oates referred in appreciative terms to the support accorded him during his two terms as president, and asked that the new president be accorded the same loyalty.
