ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

INTEREST AT PUTARURU.

Division Suggested. A meeting of the committee of the Putaruru branch of the St. John Ambulance Association was held on Tuesday, those present being Messrs L. G. Jellie (chairman), Gawith, Rolfe and Lochhead.

The chairman reported that he was advised that the Cambridge association would be unable to send a team to the social for presentation of local certificates, but that Matamata would probably be represented. The chairman further reported that he had been advised by headquarters in Auckland of its pleasure with the success of the local classes, and had asked for the formation of a division.

As it now appears to be unlikely that the Governor-General will be

able to accept the invitation to present the certificates, owing to his being in residence at Wellington, it was decided to suggest to headquarters, through the officer in charge at Hamilton (Mr. Cobb), that Colonel G. Barclay be asked to do this. After discussion it was decided that August 18 or September 8 be the date, the function to take the form of a presentation social

and dance. Details of the function were discussed, and it was suggested that Mrs. Shine and Mr. Cook be asked to assist. It was further decided that the day of the function be called Ambulance Day, that collectors be appointed to canvass the district for funds for the work of the association, and to bring the movement under the notice of the public, admission to the evening social only to be free, with a collection to defray the cost of hiring the hall.

A novel reason for expecting better prices for New Zealand cheese in London was advanced by a cheese factory supplier to a representative of the Morrinsville Star. America going back to beer would mean more cheese needed to go with the beer, and that meant more Canadian cheese exported to the United States and! less to London. Hence a better demand for New Zealand cheese in. London.
