Okauia.
~ Personal. _ , V;> •. V ' ; Mr. and Mrs. W. McDonald have returned from a fortnight’s holiday at the seaside. Mr. C. R. Oliver, of Ngatapa, Gisborne, who was the guest of Mrs. Sutherland, has returned home. Mrs. Watts and Miss Grace, who are teaching in North Auckland, spent the holidays at their respective homes at Okauia. Mrs. Ross and her sister, Miss Jacobsen, spent the holidays in the Taranaki district. Mr. Ned Brindle is now convalescent after a very severe illness.
Accident. Mr. F. Underwood, of Opal Springs, is nursing an injured foot as the result of an accident about a week ago. Mr. Underwood was standing near a car when it moved unexpectedly and a wheel went over his foot. Though fairly painful, he took little notice of the injury and went about his work for a few days. Later, however, his big toe became so painful that he had to rest at home. Farm Work. Good ensilage and hay crops are reported throughout the Okauia district and the bulk of this work is now completed. Most farmers are now devoting their attention to cleaning up, ragwort and other weeds being dealt with and general repair work being undertaken.
Popular Springs. The bituminising of the Okauia road, a good half of which is now completed, is greatly appreciated by settlers. The completion of this work should see the Okauia springs become more popular than ever. That the hot springs, which are the equal of any in New Zealand, are greatly appreciated is evidenced by the fact that over 1000 visitors have been dealt with in one day at one bath alone.
