PRESBYTERIAN AFTERNOON.

I CAR FUND BENEFITS. [ ; Excellent organisation, willing ’ helpers and lovely weather combined to make the afternoon held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian hall and tennis court on Saturday a most successful and delightful affair. The grounds were arranged for the different competitions, and an awning of canvas attached to the side of the hall and supported by streamers and flower decked poles provided, cool shelter for onlookers and the orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr. H. E. Schofield. Inside the hall were several stalls bearing cooking, produce and useful articles of clothing, etc. Afternoon tea was also on sale, while occupying the central position on the stage was the huge faster egg of blue and lemon, which was kindly lent by Mrs. N. Coubrough, of Tirau. Extensive preparations and novel' ideas had catered for the pleasure of all, and while tennis matches, clock golf, target and trail croquet or ping pong provided entertainment for the more energetic, those who were so inclined could rest and enjoy the much appreciated music played by Messrs. H. E. Schofield (conductor and pianist), D. V. Saunders (first violin), R. Hetherington (violin), Miss Audrey Bates (violin), Messrs. M. Bates and R. White (cornets) and Hawes, senr. (bass). A very special feature on the afternoon’s programme was an exhibition tennis match between Dr. J. T. Laurenson, of Matamata, and Mr. Simms, of Hamilton. The £ar fund will benefit to the extent of nearly £3O as a result of the efijoyable function. The winners of the competitions were Miss L. MacDonald, ladies’ ' tennis; Mr. W.
