Kereone.

The Cinnabar Moth Seen. The cinnabar moth has made its appearance on some of the farms in the Kereone district. Where ragwort is in abundance it can be seen how the flowers are being attacked. A black caterpillar is also attacking the plant, devouring the green leaves and leaving very little growth upon the plant. The high hills at Kiwitahi have a much greater growth this year, and the westerly breezes are scattering the seed broadcast. The crop of ragwort on top of the Kereone hill has been mown down preparatory to burning off. At the foot of the hill, one settler has been busy ploughing up the entire comer of his farm. Another farmer is patrolling his farm every fortnight to pull young plants, now coming into bloom, that were overlooked earlier in the season. More Sheep Railed. During the last few weeks further drafts of sheep and lambs have been railed to the works from the Kiwitahi station. Messrs. Smith Bros., of Kiwitahi, despatched 1200 sheep and lambs, while a large mob was sent away from the Kereone Estate. Larger flocks have been established at different parts of Kereone and Kiwitahi in recent years, while dairy farmers owning 100 acre sections find it beneficial to carry small lots of sheep to eat up the rubble. < The School Committee.
