Valedictory. A public farewell was tendered to Mr. R. Elliott in the Public Hall On Thursday evening. Mr. EJlliott leaves in the course of a few days for a trip to England and will be away for nearly 12 months. C. G. Gauntlett addressed the large number in attendance and referred to the untiring efforts of their guest in furthering any movement for the improvement of local conditions or the advancement of the district generally. The speaker could testify to the interest which Mr. Elliott had always taken in matters relating to the school. On behalf of the residents he wished Mr. Elliott a very happy holiday and a safe return to their midst,"and handed him a travelling xug, a suit case and a cheque from the residents. Mr. Elliott suitably .responded. School Baths. The swimming baths recently constructed at the school are now in »se, having been completed last week. Arrangements haye been made for the official opening ceremony in the coming week, when it is hoped that Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P., will be present to officiate. The Education Department’s physical instructor, Mr. Rush, visited the school on Wednesday and expressed himself as highly pleased with the baths. He and the head teacher, Mr. Gauntlett, gave the pupils lessons in the art of swimming.
