Golf Club.
In fine weather the Walton golf links were officially closed for the season on Saturday, when there was a good attendance, including visitors, and members of other clubs. Afternoon tea was provided by Walton ladies, and while it was being dispensed the president, Mr. W. McLean, asked Mrs. Cameron to accept a silver sandwich tray from members of the club as a token of their appreciation of her kind assistance in providing refreshments throughout the season. The speaker further remarked that he hoped that next season someone would relieve Mrs. Cameron so that she might indulge in play. The. prizes won during the .season were then presented by the president, the winners being as follow: Ladies.—Championship, Mrs. Dickey ; flag match, Mrs. Dickey ; McLean Rose Bowl, Miss D. Given ; medal round, Mrs. Lock ; bogey match, Mrs. Dickey; medal round, Mrs. Willis; most improved player, Miss McLean ; C grade championship, Miss McLean ; Mrs. Lock’s trophy, Miss Franklin; bogey match, Miss McLean ; L.G.U. silver medal, Miss D. Given; L.G.U. bronze medal, Mrs. 1 Lock. Men. Senior championship, J. Lock ; Mr. James’ trophy, N. Johnson ; Hockly Cup, W. Guy; oneclub match, G. Fromm ; junior championship, N. Johnstone ; bogey match, ( W. Guy ; medal match, J. Lock. The Hockly Cup must be won three times to be won outright. Last year’s win- j ner was M. Johnstone. The afternoon’s play was for a box of chocolates and a tin of cigarettes, which were won by Miss McLean and Mr. A. Adams respectively. In closing the day Mr. McLean thanked the older members for the assistance given during the season to the new players. He congratulated the ladies on their fine standard of I play, they having won several trophies from outside districts. Mr. Adams, club captain, thanked Mr. and Mrs. McLean for the use of the links, stating that the Walton club was fortunate in having the use of such a splendid golf course. In his opinion members of the club got first-class golf at third-class rates, and the links were the best in the district. , Personal. Mrs. Attwood, who has been on a visit to Walton, has returned to her home in Auckland. Mrs. Christenson is a* present visiting her daughters, Mrs. A Southee and Mrs. H. Southee, oi Walton. Mrs. Hensley, who has been on a visit to Waiton, has returned u town. ’ ■ :
