“ There is a woeful waste of cocksfoot in the Kangitata district,” said Mr. W. G. Gallaugher, at a recent meeting of the Ashburton County Council. “We are losing hundreds of pounds annually.” It did not seem reasonable, the speaker added, that so much should be wasted when there was such a lot of unemployment in the country. It would pay the council in future seasons to employ men to harvest the cocksfoot. It was decided that the inspector be asked to report on the condition and growth of the cocksfoot in the county in December next.
