The Annual Report.

The executive committee reported I that the club had 46 financial members.\ At the beginning of the financial year the overdraft was £540 19s Id, and to-day- it was £468 17s. Financially, the year had been a very satisfactory on'p, especially considering that accounts amounting to £8 5s carried-oyer from .the previous yedr were paid .during the year under re* view. All accbuilts were now paid. The bank overdraft had never been as low as at the present time, and the executive was of the opinion that the " indebtedness to the bank should rapidly diminish. There was- one account, which would require the earnest consideration the incoming committee and that was the refreshment accounts This account had always shown a loss, and during the year a loss of £l9 2s was made. In February last'.the dlub held- its annual tournament. The balance-sheet of the tournament disclosed a loss of £3 2s. Mr. Arthur Parsons, of Ponsonby, skipped the winning rink. The club had been represented at the Goldfields’ Association tournament on Labour Day by two rinks. One rink, consisting of Messrs. A. Oates, J. Mcart (s), won the competition. This 1 rink also won the Howden Shield for the South Auckland Bowling Centre’s rihk championship. The club extended its .congratulations to the members of the rink, which performed so well during /the season. Mr. F. Livingstone won the club’s singles championship. Presentations, as a mark of esteem and appreciation, were made to Messrs. H. Cleland and W. C. Coote, who during the season left the district. The executive regretted' to report the death of Mr. W. Gale, one of the first members of the club, who had always endeavoured to promote the interests of the club. Harmonious. relations had existed between the club and the croquet club. At all times the ladies catered exceedingly well and willingly for the bowlers. Members would note that the croquet .ciyb had paid £3 16s into the club funds, The ladies required seating accommodation and a shelter, and this was their donation towards the cost. The ladies bore the expense of providing ’ afternoon 'tea and trophies for the closing, and the execu-. tive placed on record their appreciation of the support given by the croquet club. In order to interest intending members the executive had sent out a large number of invitations for the opening day' of the past season, There was a large attendance of members, general public and visitors from surrounding clubs, the Paeroa, Te Aroha, Morrinsviile, Tirau and Putaruru clubs being repesented. A number of new members joined during the afternoon. v Owing to the resignation of Mr. G. Lilly it would be necessary to appoint a new caretaker. Twelve inter-club matches

were played during the season, and friendly relations were maintained with the neighbouring clubs. Expensive Refreshments.

Considerable discussion arose regarding the refreshment accounts. £47 8s 3d was paid for refreshments, but only £2B 6s 3d had been received, leaving a loss of £l9 2s. It was finally agreed to recommend the executive to reduce the amount of refreshments and thereby reduce the likelihood of a loss. r

The report and balance-sheet were adopted without further discussion.

Election of Officers.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P.; President, Mr. W. Egan; vicepresidents, Messrs. W. Crabb, G. Stewart, S. Gunn; treasurer, Mr. W. Egan; secretary, Mr. W. A. Gordon; assistant-secretary, Mr. F. G. White; committee, Messrs. S. ‘Gunn, W. Crabb, G. Stewart, A. Oates, J. McIntyre and E. Brunton; green-super-

intendent, Mr. G. Stewart; caretaker,

Mr. J. Pulling; auditor, Mr. Barkman; selection and match committee, Messrs. W. A. Gordon, W. Crabb, A. Oates; delegates to the South Auckland Bowling Association, Messrs. W. Egan and G. Stewart. Saturday Competitions. > . On the motion of Mr. Gordon, it was unanimously agreed to discontinue Saturday matches. I' New Hedge Required. Discussion arose regarding the hedge surrounding the greens, it being stated that tfye hedge as a shelter and protection was a failure., Mr. E. C,, Banks advocated removing the present hedge , and , erecting, a rustic fence and growing creepers and “roses. He considered that a shelter of 15ft to 20ft in height was required. Trees would be preferable, but it was .necessary to prevent the roots growing under the greens and the speaker considered that the club had not enough ground to prevent this. a The subject was discussed at length and finally Messrs. S. Gunn, W. A. Gordon and G. Stewart were elected a ground committee to deal with the matter. ' - The Annual Tournament. ' On the motion of Mr. G. Stewart, it was decided to recommend the executive to continue with the tournament during the ensuing year, ,on the condition that the refreshment expenditure should be curtailed by about half. Lawn Mower Needed. The secretary was instructed to make inquiries regarding the purchase o£ a new lawn mower. Members were of the opinion that a number of socials could be arranged and funds raised to make the purchase. . ; . Appeal for Members. Mr. Egan appealed to the members -to canvass for new members. They had a hard row to hoe during the ensuing year, and he hoped that the members would work together as in the past. Croquet Club Seats. Mr. W. A. Gordon moved that the matter of erecting a seat and shelter for the Ladies’ Croquet Club, for which the Croquet Club had made a donation, should "be referred to the executive committee to be dealt with. —Carried.

Resignations. / Messrs. J. Carter, T. E. McMillan and A. Stewart- tendered their resignations as members of the club.—Accepted. - ■ Vbtes of Thanks. A vote of thanks to Messrs. H. von Dadelszen and J. Carter, the match committee, the outgoing officers, and the green superintendent terminated the meejting. Social Committee. At a subsequent meeting of the executive Messrs. J. P. White, G. Stewart, A. Oates and E. Brunton were elected a social committee to arrange evenings to raise funds to purchase a mower.
