HOSPITAL LEVY SYSTEM. Morrinsville Rate Higher. - That there was urgent > need for concerted action on the part' of all local bodies who contributed to the upkeep of hospitals in approaching the Government to revise the whole system of representation and control with the object of definitely defining the future policy of public hospital revenue and expenditure, was 'an opinion advanced by the Palmerston North Borough Council in a letter, to the Morrinsville Borough Council on Thursday evening.
Referring to the constitution' of hospital boards, the southern council stated that the Hospital and Charitable Aid Institutions Act should be amended to enable ,City and borough councils having direct representation thereon, and proposed that a deputation wait on the Government this session to urge for a reform of the present system.
The Mayor pointed out that the levy on Morrinsville borough had been increased this year, and this was fairly general. The. matter had been thrashed out fairly fully by- the local bodies in Auckland. He did not agree that a deputation should, wait on Parliament, but he agteed that were many unsatisfactory features of the system of revenue collection. He moved that the letter be referred; to the finance committee for a report. Cr. Reason seconded, and the motion was carried.
