BOARD ROADING MATERIAL.

TENDER FOR SUPPLIES. An Offer Accepted. ■ 'At a meeting- of the Matamata Town Board on Monday night, Mr. J. Buchanan presiding, Mr. H. It. Downes forwarded the following ofJfer, for the supplying of shingle from his property at Springs road, on the undertaking that the board would take: (1) The heap of river shingle which he had on the Waihou river bank at 4s per cubic yard; (2) that the board should take 100 yards of .shingle from the hill near the Mangawhero .creek at 2s 6d per yard. He .would undertake to lower the grade ■on the main hill (near the Hot Springs property) by two feet and make a reasonably graded siding road down the lower hill. The latter grade to give access to the shingle from the hill, which the writer undertook to strip and dump across the gully handy for loading at 2s 6d per cubic, yard. This would have effect to March 31, 1929, when a new price •could be arranged or the old one continued as decided at a .conference beH tween the board members and him.self. Mr. Downes’ original offer of Is 6d per cubic yard royalty to stand as Jong as he was in possession of the property, but in the event of the board deciding to strip the shingle themselves he would cease to be re-

sponsible for the maintenance of the road on his property. On the other hand the writer would undertake to keep the said road passable for motor lorry traffic while the board was taking the metal at 2s 6d per cubic yard. In the event of the owners of the Hot Springs property preventing the lorries crossing their property he would allow them to proceed to and from the road inside his property. The chairman considered the offer a good one, and recommended acceptance, so long as the cartage did not exceed 6s 6d. That would be a total of 10s 6d, as against 12s 8d for simi-

lar stuff last year. He moved that BO yards of the 'shingle be secured, and 100 yards of the other material. Mr. Taylor seconded.—Carried. Springs Road Path.

The chairman moved that a footbath be formed along the Towerroad, where the hedge was cleared away.—Carried.
