ROAD OVERSEER.
FOE MATAMATA COUNTY At the- Matamata County Council mooting lust woolc, Or C. A. Stopford raisod the question of tho appointment of an oversow 1 for the county. Cr Stopford stated that tho man's dutios would be to control tho mon on road works. Tho ongincor <ould not possibly control tho mon throughout tho whole county, being often confined to his oflico. Tho remarks woro supported by the chairman and Crs Alien and 11. liollett, tho latter stating that it had often occurred to him that there must bo a tremendous waste of labour in the county. It was suggested by Cr Stopford thut such a man should bo paid £3OO por annum and expenses. Tho question was deferred for a report to be submitted by the engineer ut noxt mooting.
