PIAKO COUNTY COUNCII.

August Meeting. The following mattersof loc.il interest were dealt with at tie August meeting of the Piako County council : GLAXO ROADS. Messrs F. C. Daniell and A. Cooinbe, chairman of the Waihou Dairy Coy., waited on the Council in reference to matters affecting the loading problem brought about by the use of motor lorries. On the the question of the Glordon-Waharoa road it was suggested that up to the end of last May the council should contribute £l5O of the cost of keeping the road and bridges in order and the N.Z.D.A. £SO. The engineer said that £IOO was required to put the road in good order for the present season. It was pointed out that the council had already spent approximately their share (£150) on the road. On tho motion of Cr Fitzgerald the suggestion was agreed to, and the position is that the council will make up any difference between the actual amount spent and the £l5O and the N.Z.D.A. will give £SO. Regarding the ooming season Mr Daniell- suggested that the same restrictions as arranged with the Matamata County coun- • cil should be agreed to and that the councils interested should f divide the license fee. The chairman preferred making a direct agreement with the 1 N.Z.D.A. It was probable that Matamata in ! making the arrange- : ment did not contemplate a • v division of the license fee. Mr Daniell suggested that the council agree to the division of the’license fee. The chairman : Is Matamata agreable ? That’s the point. Mr Daniell: It was not mentioned. The chairman: Then I am afraid you will have to see them again. He consider the N.Z.D.A. should pay the Piako council an amount separate from the Mata- . . mata County council. Mr Daniell pointed out that if the council did not come to an arrangement it might be that the settlers would cart their milk over the road to a depot in the Matamata County. Cr Fitzgerald considered £SO was the least the council could /accept. Cr Walters suggested making the fee £3O. Cr Fitzgerald was not agreeable to this and a motion was carried ' ,ft fixing the license fee at £SO. The deputation then asked the .position of the proposed concrete road proposition. We're the % council agreeable. to the WaL hou Dairy Co. going ahead with their section of the road ?

It was decided to agree to the Dairy Coy. putting down one fourth of the road in lieu of their agreement, the road to start from the factory and come towards Te Aroha. The company are to be freed from all liability for the section of road until June 1928. Restriction for the weight of the load etc. is to be determined later. NGARUA ROADS. Messrs Nicholson and Scott attended the meeting in support of an application to increase the arpount of the Ngarua road loan to £3500, and to amend the area. It was decided to apply for theadditional amount and / that the deputation with the chairman and Cr. Fitzgerald be a committee to push the matter along. 'The definition of the area lead to a discussion over the alteration of the riding boundaries. There was a conflict of views on the matter. The chairman thought “ the pines ” would be a suitable place. Cr. McLean pointed out that all the heavy carting from the Diagonal road went to . the Walton station. Cr. Fitzgerald was not prepared to express an opinion on the alteration .of the WaltonManawaru boundaries until he had seen the ratepayers affected. A motion was carried fixing “the pines ”as the boundary between Waihou and Manawaru, but no alteration was proposed between! Walton and Manawaru.
