WALTON.
At a meeting of settlers here it was decided to nominate MiMcLean to fill the vacancy on the Piako County council caused through the resignation of Cr. C. Smith, the Walton riding member. A " surprise party " was received by Mr C. Smith and family on Saturday and a very pleasant evening ensued. Miss Hilda Smith was the recipient of a present from the ladies.
