TENNIS CLUB DANCE.

Great Success. The dance held by the Tennis club on‘Tuesday night in aid of the Red Cross funds proved a great success —socially and financially. About 60 couples were present, visitors from ail the surrounding districts being in attendance. It had been thought that the ladies would predominate in numbers, but the sexes were fairly evenly divided, a fact which materially contributed to the success and pleasure cf the evening. The hall had been most tastefully decorated, and the harmonious blending of color added to the effect. A prominent feature of the stage decorations were the nets and racquets, and the club’s colors, blue and white, were conspicuous both in stage and mural embellishments. The floor was in splendid order, a proof of plenty of hard work and care. As usual the dance music supplied by Mrs Darby (piano), Messrs W. Darby (violin) and J. Camming (cornet) was excellent, and the splendid time in conjunction with a good floor was all that the dancers could wish for. Extras were played by Misses M. Robinson, .Murray (Waharoa) and Cotter (Hinuera). Messrs B. C. Taylor and R. Burke were M’s.C., and took particular care that the dance did not drag and that everybody enjoyed themselves. The ladies of the club supplied a tasteful supperwriich wa.B enjoyed by all. Mr G. G. Bell was a very live secretary, and the officials and all Responsible are to be complimented on the way they worked.;. They must feel gratified that their efforts, we re appreciated by all' present, that their dance was a huge success. It must be a pleasant recompense for all their trouble to know that ; the funds of a very ..deserving cause will benefit substantially. When dancing terminated the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” ancl the National Anthem brought the function to a close.
