RED CROSS WORK.

Matamata Branch. A well attended meeting ot the Matanfata Red Cross was held in the Town hall on Thursday, May 10th. Afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames Price and Blackburn. During the afternoon the- society was visited by two girls from the school, Misses Margaret Simpson and Vera Kusabs, whn brought a contribution of sixteen handkerchiefs and 2s, being their work and subscriptions for a fortnight from their guild. There are twelve girls in the school guild in Std. IV. under the capable leadership of Miss Crawshaw. The ladies appreciate their help very much. On May 7th Mrs C. S. Wallace gave an afternoon, each guest invited being expected to bring a tin o£ condensed milk, which resulted in our May box being augmented by 15 tins of this useful article. The box packed at the close of the meeting contained the following goods : —lB pyjama suits, 14 shirts, 36 pillowslips, 9 underflannels, 5 flannel bed jackets, 40 handkerchiefs, 60 towel£, 1 knitted vest scarf, 4 pairs socks, 2 balaclavas, 2 pairs invalid slippers, 2 Red Cross bags, 4 face cloths, 12 eye bandages, 6 roller bandages, 15 tins condensed milk, magazines and ravellings. Included from Turanga-o-moana 1 knitted vest scarf,2 Red Cross bags, 9 flannel shirts, 2 shirts, 4 pyjama suits, 2 pairs invalid slippers, 9 eye bandages. During the afternoon competitions were held, Mrs Free winning the first prize and Miss Grace Hoult the “ booby.”
