FOOTBALL.

The match on Saturday last on the local ground between Queenstown and Arrowtown resulted in an overwhelming defeat of the visiting team by 43 points to nil. The Queenstown team’s score was made up of 11 tries (2 converted) and two penalty goals. The teams wore, Queenstown: K. Anderson; J. Murdoch, I. McLeod, G. Sanders; G. Nelson, R. Anderson; W. Robins; J. Walsh, Inder, R. Gray, G. Buxton, D. McNeilly, M. Vercoe, F. Lynch.

Arrowtown: O. Dudley; R. Scott, I. Dalrymple, J. Elliott; D. McEntyro, A. Turner; D. Thompson; J. Dennison, G. Dennison, J. McEntyro, L. Austin, B. Jackways, F. Dalrymple, King, K. McEntyre. The ground was in first-class order and was conducive to a fast game. Play was in Arrow territory for the greater part of the game. The fastmoving Queenstown backs dominated the play; they linked up well in passing rushes and their cutting-in was very effective. Were it not for faulty handling by the Arrow backs, Arrow might have held their opponents to better advantage. The Arrow forwards though much lighter than their opponents, prevented several breakthroughs. However, Queenstown got most of the ball from the scrums, Robins sending his backs away to some good passing. Tries were scored by R. Anderson 2, W. Robins 2, G. Nelson 3, J. Murdoch 2, McNeilly and McLeod 1 each. Nelson kicked two penalties and two tries were converted. Mr Hayward controlled the game.
